March 3rd:-The Environment Educational Centre organized a breakfast for the Kinder-garten students at the ELS with Hamuda Diary Milk Company. They came to school and presented their dairy products to the students. March 3rd:-The school hosted The Palestinian Writer Mr. Majdy Al-Shomaly from Beit Sahour so as to discuss his book that he wrote in 2015 about what happened during the year 1968 – the Arab –Israeli war. The name of the book is “Spring 68”. The aim and idea of doing this is to encourage the students to read outside the class

 

March 5th:-The schools welcomed a group of Danish students, as part of a joint exchange program, between our school and a Danish organization. The program was supported by the school and the Joint Advocacy Initiative (JAI). The 11th grade presented a power point presentation about the school and the programs implemented. Mr. Salim Jaber gave them a tour of the school. He talked to them about the history and programs implemented in the school.   After that the Folklore Dancing Group – Dabkeh – presented three dance performances to them at the YMCA

March 7th:-The school welcomed Mr. and Mrs. Bessinger -Tom and Jenifer- who visited the school. They were welcomed by Mr. Shawki Hawwash the Principal and Mr. Salim Jaber the Deputy Principal. They explained to them about the educational system at the Lutheran schools, which are run by the Lutheran Church. Then Mr. Salim Jaber gave them a tour, showed them the different workshops and explained to them about the programs that are implemented at the school for the benefit of the students. Moreover they visited the kindergarten, the math, physics, biology, chemistry, computer labs, the library and some classes. They were very pleased and happy to visit the school. Moreover they had a talk about the religions of Christianity and Islam, and how do they live together in school and Beit Sahour. They also discus a question why do Christians in Beit Sahour stayed in the country and didn’t immigrate to other countries

 

March 9th:-The school held the DSD / German Exam with the supervision of the ZFA – Deutsche Auslandsschularbeit International – for the 9th, 10th and 11th grades. The students sat for two days. The first day was the listening and written exams where they answer on separate sheets. The second day was The Oral Exam, where the students do an interview with the representative of the ZFA. Besides this, the students have to present a presentation about their favorite subject

March 10th:-The school hosted the students from The Life Gate; this institution takes care of children who have special needs. The students from Life Gate meet our students from the 3rd grade and did some activities together, for the whole day. The aim of this project is to have our students meet students with special needs and learn how to interact with people who have special needs

 

March 11th:-The school and its staff were invited by General Secretariat for Christian Educational Institutions to participate in the Retreat with other Christians schools in Bethlehem area

 

March 14th:-The school hosted the Arabic teacher from Dar AlKalima School to present and talk about how to do a scientific research paper depending on special criteria to use. He spoke to the 10th grade students to give them step by step instructions on how to do the research

 

March 15th:- The school applied for an award called ‘Nabel Hani Qaddumi Scholarship Foundation for Distinguish Education (HQSF)’. So, we applied by writing a description about our Vocational Education Program that we implement at school with the students. They visited the workshops and asked specific questions about the program. Last week, the principal was invited to the distributing Award Event at Ramallah where they announced the winners of the award. The ELS shared the award with other two schools and won a prize of seventeen thousand dollars -($17000). We were the only private school who applied for the award

 

March 17th:-Mother’s Day.  The school held a program to celebrate Mother’s Day at the Greek Orthodox Hall with the students, their families, and the staff conducted by students from different grades. Each grade prepared a song, sketch, or presentation showing the students’ skills and talents.  It was a great success, and all who were involved enjoyed the program. The student senate completed a morning broadcast about Women’s Day and gave all of the female teachers’ flowers in celebration.  They likewise spoke specifically about the Palestinian women’s resistance throughout this political situation and how women are able to cope during these times.  There are many things that women do every day including working fulltime jobs, cooking meals for the family, cleaning the house, raising their children, studying for advanced degrees, and many other things.  For all of their strength and courage, we celebrate them

 

March 17th:-The Kindergarten celebrated Mother’s Day with a carnival for the students. The students came to school in the morning dressed in many different colorful costumes and disguised clothing. The students celebrated together with their teachers and enjoyed singing songs, dancing, and playing games with each other

 

March 18th :-In our annual tradition, we hosted the other two schools, Talitha Kumi in Beit Jala and Dar al-Kalima in Bethlehem to participate in the football tournament annual event, while the Hope School in Ramallah didn’t come because of the Israeli check points on the road.  Several students from each school played on teams, while many other students sat in the crowd watching and cheering. The school principals and school deputy principals were also present to cheer on each of the teams. In the end, ELS came in first place, Tabitha Kumi came in second place, and Dar al-Kalima came in third place. This annual tournament is held in order to implement good spirits and cooperation between all of the schools and their students

 

March 19th:-The school held the Internal Bowl for competing students in grades 8-10. Those students who competed today were the winners from the previous round of competition during the class screening.  The two competitions included the mini-talks and the spelling bee.  The winners of the mini-talk competition include Michael Khair and Oriane Al-Yatim from grade 8, Mari Shomaly and Dumiana Baboul from grade 9, and Mays Bannourah and Wissam Salmanfrom grade 10.  The winners of the spelling bee include Ali Salman and Diala Al –Sahaerfrom grade 8, Elia Khair and Matilda Rishmawi from grade 9, and Elias Khair and Oula Bannourah from grade 10. Those winning students will compete in the final round of their respective competitions during the ELCJHL Spring Educational Day at the ELS/ Beit Sahour

 

March – 23th:-Faculty, Staff, the Parent’s Council, and the Tawjihi students joined one another for an annual Tawjihi lunch at the Grotto Restaurant in Beit Sahour.  The Tawjihi students are now finished with their classes, set now to study for both the school and governmental exams coming up.  The lunch was in celebration of their accomplishments so far. The students arranged a program to thank their teachers by way of different sketches, dances, and performed music.  We are all very proud of them, and wish them all luck as they begin their rigorous review for their multitude of exams

March – 23th:- The school administration organized a workshop for the 7th grade with the Bethlehem District Authority for Water and Sewage Department, on the annual anniversary of ‘The International Water Day, ‘where Mr. Awni Jubran – a representative from the Water Department spoke about the importance on how to use water sources due to the critical situation in Palestine and how to keep it. Moreover, he spoke about the Israeli total control of the natural water resources in Palestine

 

 March - Monday 28th – Wednesday 30th:-The five –MUN- students from the 9th and 10th grade participated in the ROSMUN Jerusalem for three days. They discussed several issues concerning the World such as:- The Syrian Crisis , the Yemen War, global warming , nuclear weapons etc
